SAPAC acquires 6 Teraflop cluster, "Corvus", and other cyber-infrastructure

January 10th, 2007
South Australia’s ability to support local and national advanced research and development has taken a major leap forward with the purchase from SGI of a new high-performance supercomputer and data storage and management infrastructure by the South Australian Partnership for Advanced Computing (SAPAC).
In the tradition of naming cluster-based supercomputers after stellar constellations, the new South Australian computer will be called “Corvus”, the constellation of the Crow.

Important Announcement: Request Tracker for helpdesk requests

November 2007
In order to improve user services and especially helpdesk response times and feedback to users, SAPAC is implementing Request Tracker (RT). This process will be transparent to our members and should cause no inconvenience. Using RT is easy and requires no more effort than the old method.

RT is designed to manage your helpdesk requests, to document problems and issues, coordinate tasks, report status, outcomes and task resolutions. It does this by assigning each email helpdesk request with a 'ticket' and then tracks the ticket to resolution.

From early November 2007, Request Tracker will be the primary method for you to submit helpdesk requests. Although SAPAC will continue to support other methods for contacting helpdesk - such as phone contact for urgent requests - emails submitted through RT will be the preferred method and the only method that will guarantee a response to your request. Because RT manages requests more effectively, direct email to individual SAPAC user support staff should never be used.

RT should be used from Thursday 15 November.
Please note that SAPAC user support will respond to current requests; however, if there are important outstanding problems that require more urgent action but have not yet been logged in RT, please re-submit your request through RT by sending an email to the SAPAC Helpdesk.

A detailed step-by-step guide to the whole request submission process can be found here.
