Titan - Hardware

Titan is a Beowulf cluster.

It has been built entirely from 60 nodes of the Perseus cluster, a cluster originally built within the Distributed and High Performance Computing research group at the University of Adelaide in 1999 and used mainly for computational chemistry applications.

The nodes contain dual 500MHz Pentium III cpus. The compute nodes are made up of:

  • 6 nodes with 512MB RAM and 40GB local disk capacity,

  • 4 nodes with 512MB RAM and 20GB local disk capacity,

  • 7 nodes with 512MB RAM and 10GB local disk capacity,

  • 43 nodes with 256MB RAM and 10GB local disk capacity.

There is an additional node that is used as a front end to interface to the cluster, and to host the user file systems and provide backup capabilities. In addition to dual 500MHz Pentium III CPUs it has 512MB RAM and 80GB local disk capacity.
